1) Get your kids excited
In the days leading up to your shoot, start preparing your kids by keeping it fun and positive. Instead of saying, ‘We’re going to take photos,’ tell them you’ll be going on an adventure together exploring a new place, having fun, and making memories. Let them know how excited you are to spend quality time as a family, and that the photos will simply capture those happy moments.
2) Avoid Bribery
Avoid telling your kids things like, ‘If you listen to the photographer or smile, you’ll get a treat afterward.’ This makes the photoshoot feel like work instead of fun. Instead, focus on the excitement of playing, exploring, and spending time together as a family the smiles will come naturally.
3) Be Present, Enjoy the moment
During your family photoshoot, let go of worries about how you look, whether the kids are smiling, or even what the weather is doing. The best photos come when you’re relaxed and present. Simply enjoying time with your partner and children. Focus on the connection, and the joy will shine through naturally.
4) The Power of Touch
Focus on gentle physical connection during your shoot. Hold hands, dance with your kids, share tickles, hugs, and kisses. The same goes for your partner keeping some form of touch creates natural, loving moments that shine beautifully in photos
5) What to wear?
Soft tones like beige, gray, blues, greens, cream, or pastels help keep the focus on your family, not your clothes. Try to avoid busy patterns, logos, or branded clothing they can distract from the natural connection between you. Simple, timeless outfits make sure the love and interactions you share really shine in your photos.
For kids the girls, dresses can look adorable, but make sure they have shorts underneath, or a nappy cover if they’re still in nappies. for boys and girls comfort is just as important as style we don’t want them feeling fussy in their outfits. Rompers are a great option too, since you won’t have to keep adjusting a dress or shirt when picking them up
6) I don't like makeup and want to be natural
Hair and makeup can make a noticeable difference in your photos. You don’t need to go full glam, but a little mascara or some lashes, and a pop of color on your lips, can really elevate your images and help you feel confident in front of the camera.
